House ban for MP after ‘undermining’ apology

A Tory MP is to serve a one-day ban from the House after he “undermined” an apology he made for bullying staff.

Daniel Kawczynski, who represents Shrewsbury and Atcham, has also been told by the Commons standards committee to apologise again and work on his “attitude and behaviour”, after he called into question the sincerity of his earlier apology.

Mr Kawczynski made his original apology in June, after he was found to have breached rules on treatment of staff, but told BBC Radio Shropshire the same day: “I have no alternative but to apologise because if I don’t apologise then I risk the option of being sanctioned further.”
