Handed back Stripped military titles and patronages
The Duke of York has been stripped of all military titles and remaining royal patronages.
He had been determined to cling onto the military affiliations and was proud of his role as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, one of the oldest and most emblematic regiments. Only recently was he photographed wearing a jacket with its cypher.
When the Duke stepped back from public duties following his Newsnight interview in 2019, around 50 organisations removed him as patron.
Many, particularly those working with children, felt it no longer appropriate to continue their associations with him.
However, he retained scores of patronages, including the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, Friends of the Staffordshire Regiment and two prestigious golf clubs in Northern Ireland, Royal Portrush and Royal County Down.
The military titles he has lost are:
♦ Grenadier Guards – Colonel
♦ The Princess Louise Fusiliers of Canada – Colonel in Chief
♦ The Queen’s York Rangers (1st American Regiment) – Colonel in Chief
♦ Royal Highland Fusiliers (Canada) – Colonel in Chief
♦ Royal Irish Regiment (27th (Inniskilling), 83rd and 87th and The Ulster Defence Regiment) – Colonel in Chief
♦ Royal New Zealand Army Logistic Regiment (The Duke of York’s Own) – Colonel in Chief
♦ Small Arms School Corps – Colonel in Chief
♦ The Royal Lancers (Queen Elizabeths’ Own) – Colonel in Chief
♦ The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland – Royal Colonel
♦ Yorkshire Regiment – Colonel in Chief
♦ Honorary air commodore of RAF Lossiemouth
♦ Commodorein-chief of the Fleet Air Arm.
