Baldwin has failed to hand over his phone, say police

ALEC BALDWIN has still not handed his phone to detectives investigating the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on a film set, despite a request being made nearly a month ago.

Authorities in the US issued a search warrant on Dec 16 for the actor’s mobile to be seized, but a statement from Santa Fe County Sheriff ’s office yesterday said: “To date, the cell phone has not been turned over to authorities.”

It is believed there may be evidence on the phone relevant to the incident in which a prop gun went off, fatally injuring the 42-year-old on the film set of Rust in New Mexico.

The statement comes just days after the three-time Golden Globe winner said on Instagram: “Any suggestion that I am not complying with requests or orders or demands or search warrants about my phone, that’s b-------, that’s a lie.”

He added that New Mexico had to go through New York law enforcement, and the process of specifying exactly what is needed takes time.

“They can’t just go through your phone and take your photos, or your love letters to your wife, or what have you,” he said. Baldwin told ABC News he did not pull the trigger, saying the Colt revolver went off when he was cocking the gun and rehearsing camera angles with Ms Hutchins.

Investigators are trying to establish where the live round came from and, in the search warrant for Baldwin’s phone, said they are looking for text messages, images, videos, calls or any other information related to the movie.

Elsewhere, the armourer in charge of the weapons on set has sued the prop supplier, alleging his company distributed live ammunition. Hannah Gutierrez Reed, 24, is seeking unspecified damages from prop provider Seth Kenney and his company, PDQ Arm and Prop LLC, according to the lawsuit filed in New Mexico state court.
