Simon Cowell has given hope to all midlife singletons
Simon Cowell has finally put a ring on it at the age of 62. And a generous £2.5 million sparkler it is, too; no wonder freshly affianced Lauren Silverman, 44, appears pleased as punch.
Hats off to her. Getting any career bachelor to pop the question is a pretty big deal. Past 60, and it’s a miracle; those happy-everafters are so rare as to be the stuff of urban myth.
The couple have a son together, Eric, aged seven, and another, 16-yearold Adam, from a previous relationship. I expect they’re both thrilled about the big day – until they’re told what they’ll have to wear, obviously.
In the enlightened 21st century, we have no need of shotgun weddings, or any other sort for that matter. Nobody gets in knots about it – which is why there’s something touching about mega-rich midlifers deciding to plight their troths, share the Fortnum & Mason run, and whatever else signifies till-death-do-us-part togetherness.
I wish them well.
