Death in Paradise BBC ONE, 9PM

™

Ex-eastenders actress Tamzin Outhwaite guest stars in the latest iteration of BBC One’s tropical whodunit as a shifty woman caught in the middle when her husband is accused of killing his estranged brother. Set against the familiar backdrop of palm trees and blue seas, and this week a golf course, on the fictional island of Saint Marie, cops Neville (Ralf Little) and Florence (Joséphine Jobert) flit between investigating the gory crime and flirting – “will they, won’t they?” becoming more fun to apply to the possibility of them sharing a kiss in a car than finding the murderer. New recruit Marlon (Tahj Miles), a former youth offender who ditches breaking the law in favour of delivering it, continues to lend the show a welcome dose of charisma, becoming a sort-of resident Jack the Lad with handcuffs.

Over the Christmas week, eight million people watched the show’s first ever festive special, a success in no danger of ending as Brits continue their love affair with crime drama. The show’s

crime-lite tone and tranquil setting won’t feel too taxing at the end of a long week – it might

even fill a void if your Caribbean holiday fell victim to Covid cancellation. Poppie Platt
