Cost of remembrance

-

sir – I have been researching the names on local war memorials, using my subscription to Findmypast (Letters, January 14), which gives me access to the 1911 and previous censuses.

With the publication of the 1921 Census I had great hopes of adding to my research on the fallen of 1939-45. However, these projects will have to remain unfinished, as £3.50 for an original document and £2.50 for the transcript make it too expensive.

sir – Researching my family history I came across a transcription calling an ancestor a “mood culler”.

After much rummaging in dictionaries, I searched for the original document and found the copperplate writing read “wood cutter”.
