HSBC charity squeeze
SIR – I am the treasurer of a small wildlife charity with 100 members, covering North Wales.
I agree about HSBC’S new charging structure for charity accounts (Letters, January 15). In our case, there are charges for cheques received, cheques paid and bank-collected standing orders, on top of the monthly fee of £5 for the privilege of banking with them.
This bombshell from HSBC came soon after Nationwide decided to close all gross treasurer’s trust accounts last February. We had a savings account and were given just two months to close it and move our money – in the middle of a pandemic with a new lockdown looming.
