Drink driver who killed her children is jailed

A drink-driving mother who screamed: “Why didn’t I put their seat belts on?” after killing her children in a car crash has been jailed for four years.

Mary Mccann, 35, hit a Scania HGV on the M1 near Milton Keynes at around 11.10pm on Aug 9 last year.

Lilly Mccann, four, and Smaller Mccann, 10, died at the scene after Mccann crashed while driving at 72mph in a 60mph zone.

A witness heard her shout: “God, why didn’t I put their seat belts on?” Aylesbury Crown Court heard.

Mccann admitted two counts of causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink, and was jailed for 49 months.
