AN NHS housekeeper was among four people stabbed to death at a home in London, family members have said.

Police were called early yesterday morning following reports of a disturbance at a residential address in Bermondsey, south-east London, where officers “made a dreadful discovery”.

Three women and a man were found with stab wounds and later pronounced dead at the scene on Delaford Road.

One of the victims, a woman in her 60s, was named by relatives as Dolet Hill, a retired housekeeper at Guy’s Hospital. The other three victims, described by police as a woman in her 40s, another woman in her 20s and a man in his 60s, were all believed to have known Ms Hill.

A man in his late 20s was arrested on suspicion of murder after the incident, the Met said, and was in custody yesterday. Detectives believe he was known to those who were killed.

Police were called to the scene by concerned neighbours and had to force entry to the house. Residents said officers at the scene warned them to keep their back doors locked.

One neighbour, 55, who did not want to be named, said he heard screams at around 1.30am yesterday morning.

He said: “I was watching television, and then I heard a woman screaming.

“The screaming lasted about five minutes – you know when a woman’s screaming.

“It’s a peaceful area and you can hear everything around here at night. When I looked out the window I didn’t see anything. I just turned the TV back on and must have fallen asleep.

“Then I was woken again by helicopters, and loads of police cars and four ambulances had turned up. The place was all taped up, I was quite shocked.”

Yesterday, three forensic tents were visible on Delaford Road, which was shut off by police with a barricade.

Ch Supt Colin Wingrove, head of policing in Southwark, said: “In the early hours of this morning, following a call from neighbours, officers forced entry to a house in Delaford Road, SE16.

“Inside the house, they made a dreadful discovery of four people who had been stabbed. Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics, all four were sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“I can confirm the deceased were three women, believed to be aged in their mid-60s, 40s and 30s, and one man, believed to be aged in his mid-60s.

“I want to offer my heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of all those concerned.

“A man in his late 20s was arrested at the address on suspicion of murder.

“He remains in custody and, at this early stage, we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. We believe all those involved may have been known to each other.”

Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, said: “Heartbroken to hear that three women and a man were killed last night in a devastating incident at an address in Southwark.

“My thoughts are with the family and friends of those who have lost loved ones in this awful crime. An investigation is underway and a man has been arrested.”
