Useless car park apps

-

SIR – At the age of 70 I pride myself on my ability to keep up with technology.

However, when it comes to car parks (report, April 25), I find it impossible to pay using apps when there is no mobile signal. The phone number given on the machine is also, of course, unusable from that location.

Do car park operators consider this? Richard Westray

SIR – Having just visited Britain after a two-and-a-half-year break due to the pandemic, I can confirm that it is not only the elderly who are excluded from using parking apps.

After spending a fortune on roaming charges while downloading an app in Spain, the British car park wouldn’t accept an overseas telephone number.

After trying multiple times, I had to put in my old Uk-based number, which is no longer in use. Why ask for a number if it is not going to be checked?
