Bluebell armada
SIR – I met my wife to be in the bluebell season of 1974 (Letters, April 27), which made our first country walk memorably special. We repeat it annually in Dorest and Kent.
The English bluebell, Hyacinthoides non-scripta, is being endangered by the Spanish bluebell, Hyacinthoides hispanica, which has broader leaves, larger, paler flowers and thicker stems. Our local public garden bears witness to its increasing genetic dominance. Dr Peter Sander
