Ryanair keeps check-in fees despite web crash

- By Will Kirkman

RYANAIR has charged passengers an extra £55 for checking in at the airport, even as online check-in was unavailable because its website was down.

The airline asks travellers to check in online or using its mobile app, and charges fees to passengers who check in in-person. The £55 fee is charged per traveller.

Customers on Twitter complained Ryanair had charged them £55 despite its website being unavailable for several hours yesterday. There were hundreds of complaints to web monitor Down Detector that Ryanair’s website had crashed from 6am to 9.30am.

James Daley, of consumer group Fairer Finance, said: “It can’t be right that an airline penalises its customers for its own failures. Indeed, it’s a clear breach of con- sumer laws and regulations.”

Later yesterday, a Ryanair spokesman said: “Any passengers who had to check in at the airport and were charged an airport check-in fee can contact Ryanair Customer Service to request a refund.”
