Platinum shows TV and radio Jubilee-themed programmes
♦ David Cameron will feature on The Royal Diplomat on May 28. The show, which will air on the BBC World Service, features a series of interviews with friends and insiders who have worked with the Queen on global issues and seen her in operation during her reign.
♦ A special edition of The Repair Shop on June 1 will see Jay Blades and the team mark the Jubilee by bringing four treasured heirlooms with royal connections back to life, including a hand-painted commemorative plate made to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887.
♦ Amusing recollections of meeting the Queen will be told on Radio 4 in Encounters With Elizabeth on Friday June 3. Robert Lacey, a distinguished royal observer and writer, will present the hour-long show, with guests including the royal private secretary who had to shield the Queen from the press as she collapsed into fits of giggles at the sight of a dozen bishops and clergy.
♦ Comedians and impressionists who have played the Queen will talk to host Edith Bowman on Radio 2 on Sunday June 5. In Playing The Queen, actors, lookalikes, and impressionists will reveal what it’s like to play the Queen. Guests include Jan Ravens (from
Dead Ringers and
Spitting Image) and William Conacher (the dialect coach for
The Crown).
♦ There will be a special edition of
Songs of Praise on Sunday June 5, from the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich.
