sir – As a young fresh-from-the-city English teacher at very rural Appleby Grammar School in the early 1980s, I spied two teenage lads sharing a magazine under their desks. From the nudging it seemed clear what type of publicatio­n they were sharing. On snatching it away from them in outrage it turned out to be a copy of Power Farming.
