Gospel composer joins LSO to broaden appeal

-

The London Symphony Orchestra has appointed an African-american gospel composer to help it diversify its classical repertoire.

André J Thomas has been appointed to the new role of associate artist, with the task of devising programmes and selecting works to perform during the concert season, in an effort to broaden the range and public appeal of the ensemble.

Mr Thomas is the second appointee in the position, following Canadian soprano Barbara Hannigan.

Both will work with the LSO for a period of three years.
