Duke of Cambridge shares his love of clubbing anthems

-

THE Duke of Cambridge is a “secret clubber” who listens to anthems of the 1990s and early 2000s, a DJ has claimed.

Simon Mayo, who received an MBE for services to radio yesterday, said the Duke had told him about his music tastes during their short ceremony.

Mayo spent 15 years at Radio 1, and presented the breakfast show when Prince William was a boy, before moving to the mid-morning slot and on to Radio 5 Live and then Radio 2.

He received his MBE from the Duke yesterday, in the first day of investitures at Buckingham Palace since the Covid19 pandemic.

He said: “I suspect most people, when they come in for an award, they think, ‘Do I really deserve this?’

“I think I felt a lot of imposter syndrome, thinking other people should be here but they’re not.”

In January, the Duke shared some of his favourite songs as part of a walking podcast, choosing Shakira’s Waka Waka and Tina Turner’s The Best for their sentimental links to his children and late mother respectively, and AC/DC’S Thunderstruck for its ability to wake him up in the morning.
