Stranded refugees

-

SIR – Eager to be part of the scheme to help Ukraine’s refugees, on March 5 we placed an offer of a four-bedroom house with two bathrooms on several websites. On March 25 we were matched with a Ukrainian family of six. This family had fled to Turkey from Ukraine and were living in one room in a hotel awaiting approval of their visas.

The house has now been decorated, cleaned, and fully furnished and equipped with the help of friends. Our local council has approved it as safe and suitable for a family of six people.

My husband and I are still waiting for approval of the documents we were required to submit, including our birth certificates, driving licences and passports. More importantly the Ukrainians are still waiting for approval of their visa applications.
