The Left can’t defend women if they can’t even say the word

-

The potential overturning of the abortion rights conferred by Roe vs Wade in the United States is an unwelcome attack on women’s fundamental freedoms.

The Left have been predictably outspoken in their condemnation of the Supreme Court’s draft judgment, which, if enacted, would reverse the landmark decision that has provided constitutional protection for women to terminate their pregnancies in America for half a century.

Yet I can’t say I have much truck with the Democrats decrying the Supreme Court leak – while apparently remaining incapable of using the word “woman” to describe an adult human female.

“Birthing bodies have the right to freedom”, tweeted Representative Francesca Hong, a Democratic politician from Wisconsin (she/her).

“Deciding if or when to become a parent is one of the most personal, life-changing decisions. Access to abortion and reproductive care is a decision we must trust each person to make based on what’s best for their health and their future.”

I would imagine that what’s best for most women’s health and future is not describing them as “birthing bodies”.

How do these people possibly expect to stand up for women’s rights when they seemingly pretend that men can have abortions, too?

There is a name for people who can get pregnant, have babies (and abortions). They’re called women.

This move by the Supreme Court hasn’t come out of nowhere. Republicans have been working to achieve it for decades.

I can’t help wondering: if the Democrats hadn’t spent recent years obsessing over pronouns, could they have been more effective at mobilising against this?

Instead, they have pandered to the trans extremists and women are once again likely to suffer as a result.
