West End blames £400 ticket prices on ‘supply and demand’

-

THE producer of a West End play has defended selling tickets for £400, saying it is merely a result of “supply and demand”.

The Ambassadors Theatre in Covent Garden is charging more than double the initial preview price of £150 for tickets to see the hit Cock. Front row seats for Mike Bartlett’s play before the end of its run on June 4 were spotted on the ATG Tickets website for £500, while seats several rows back were on sale for £350, and seats in the circle for £300. Elliott Harper, the producer, said: “As the show nears the end of its run, the remaining premium ticket seats are based on supply and demand.” Mr Harper insisted cheaper tickets are available, saying: “Since the production went on sale last year, 15 per cent of all tickets sold have been at £20.

“There is a daily lottery for every performance where more tickets are also priced at £20.”
