Former SNP MP convicted after embezzling £25k
A FORMER SNP MP faces being jailed after she was convicted of embezzling almost £25,000 from pro-independence groups.
Natalie Mcgarry, 41, who represented Glasgow East from 2015 to 2017, was told she had committed “significant breaches of trust” as she was found guilty on two counts at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday.
The jury took three hours to find her guilty of embezzling £19,974 while she was treasurer of Women for Independence from April 26 2013 to Nov 30 2015.
She was also convicted of taking £4,661 from April 9 2014 to Aug 10 2015 as treasurer, secretary and convener of the Glasgow Regional Association of the SNP.
Sentencing was deferred until next month by Sheriff Tom Hughes, and Mcgarry, of Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, was granted bail.
