Picasso spotted at home of Marcos Jr’s mother

A PICASSO artwork that was supposed to have been seized eight years ago has been spotted in the home of the mother of the new Filipino president.

A painting closely resembling Pablo Picasso’s Reclining Woman VI featured in video footage filmed at the home of Imelda Marcos, mother of the Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr, who emerged victorious in the Philippines presidential election this week.

He is the son of Ferdinand Marcos, who ruled under martial law from 1972 until 1981. During his rule, known for its corruption and brutality, Marcos Sr reportedly plundered assets worth an estimated $10billion. A task force was set up to seize the family’s ill-gotten assets, and the Picasso was included in the list of assets seized during a raid at the family’s home in San Juan in 2014.

It was spotted on the wall of Imelda Marcos’s home this week when a TV crew visited for an interview. Local media said it could be a copy.

Bongbong Marcos’s spokesman deflected questions about the painting during a press briefing yesterday.
