SIR – There are almost daily reports about British Airways delaying payment of refunds for cancelled flights, but if you used your hardearned Avios points in part payment, it seems there is no refund at all.

In 2019 I used more than 17,000 points towards the cost of a £450 return flight to Verona. The remainder I paid in cash. The flight was cancelled but, while I have a voucher for the cash payment of £140, my Avios points have not been recredited.

Perhaps the points will be refunded when I use the voucher, but I am not holding my breath.

SIR – In the 1960s I frequently flew with Nigel Buxton, then travel editor of the Sunday Telegraph. He always arrived with a wicker hamper containing wine, fresh bread rolls, cheese and cold meats (Letters, May 12).

We dismissed this as mere eccentricity, but it appears that he was several decades ahead of his time. John Carter

SIR – As a retired airline pilot, I recall a time in the 1980s when a dispute with catering staff meant in-flight food was arriving late and delaying departures.

On one occasion, we were advised that if we missed our slot there would be a four-hour delay. The passengers had boarded, so the captain asked those who would rather go without the food and have complimentary drinks en route to please raise their hands. All hands went up and the aircraft departed with no delay.
