Anti-terror group knew of ‘neo-nazi’ student for 2 years
A STUDENT at Warwick University was referred to Prevent two years before setting up a neo-nazi group, it has emerged, as he was found guilty of being a member of the banned far-right organisation.
Alex Davies, 27, was convicted yesterday of being part of National Action after it was outlawed in 2016 and rebranded as National Socialist Anticapitalist Action.
Davies, who set up the group in 2013 while studying philosophy, was called “an extremist’s extremist” and “the biggest Nazi of the lot”. The court heard Davies had told an undercover reporter he did not want to say what he would do to Jews, because it was “so extreme”.
Barnaby Jameson QC, prosecuting, called Davies “the founder, the galvaniser, the recruiter” in the group. Two years before starting the group, which posted “congratulatory” tweets after MP Jo Cox was killed, he was referred to the Prevent anti-terror programme.
Judge Mark Dennis QC adjourned the case for sentencing on June 7 at the Central Criminal Court.
