City Airport aims to land zero emissions by 2030
London City Airport plans to become the capital’s first airport that is net zero for carbon emissions by 2030.
The airport will phase out gas for heating its buildings, ensure all of its vehicles are electric and eliminate single-use plastics.
It aims to increase journeys to and from the airport using “sustainable transport modes” from 73 per cent in 2019 to 80 per cent, as well as planning to become one of the UK’S first airports to facilitate zero-emission flights.
“We are ideally placed to help shape the next phase of aviation innovation in London, establishing it as a global leader of the net zero economy,” said Robert Sinclair, City’s chief executive.
