Cave concert cancelled as man falls in cavern

A gig in a Peak District cave had to be abandoned after an audience member fell into the cavern from above.

An emergency rescue was launched as comedian John Shuttleworth was halfway through his show at Peak Cavern on Thursday evening. Edale Mountain Rescue said the man had been trying to find his way to the event using a sat-nav when he slipped and was left clinging to a tree around 100ft above the cave entrance. The event was cancelled but the man was rescued with only minor injuries.

Shuttleworth tweeted: “I suppose I’ll have to write a song about the incident now. I can perform it when I return to finish the gig.”
