Love thy neighbour ... if you know their name

-

Fewer than half of British people know their neighbour’s name, a study has revealed.

Millions of adults have only ever exchanged quick greetings with their neighbour, while one in twenty never speaks to them. A poll of 2,000 Brits found despite living in close to the same people for years, just 49 per cent know their neighbour’s name. And 23 per cent admitted they call their neighbour “mate” as a result, while a fifth have only said a quick hello.

It also emerged it takes an average of three years to properly get to know your neighbours, but thanks to lockdown, 38 per cent feel they are closer than before.
