‘I need to sell the house to pay for the care home fees’

-

Adrian Greenwood, 83, needs to sell the family home in West Yorkshire to pay his wife’s care home fees of nearly £4,000 a month.

The couple have been married more than 60 years but his wife could no longer be looked after at home.

Mr Greenwood, who ran a clothing manufacturing company, lodged his application for lasting power of attorney in February and had, until this week, heard nothing.

“I am stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea,” said Mr Greenwood at the start of the week.

“I need to sell the house to pay for the care home fees and as time goes on it gets more and more urgent.”

He wrote a letter to The Daily Telegraph and another to his local MP, and this week was finally contacted by letter by the OPG and told his application was being approved.

Until then there had been “no interaction”.

He said the OPG letter had been extremely polite and was relieved that his ordeal will soon be over.
