Racist bullying
Zahawi recalls abuse at school
Nadhim Zahawi has revealed he was dunked in a pond by bullies as a child as he condemned the attack on a Welsh school boy.
The Education Secretary recalled how he had been racially abused and bullied at school as he described the experiences of Raheem Bailey as “sickening”.
The 11-yearold’s mother, Shantal, said her son lost his finger while “fleeing school bullies”, adding he has been facing “racial and physical abuse” since he started secondary school at Abertillery Learning Community in South Wales in September.
Asked about the case on Sophy Ridge on Sunday, Mr Zahawi said: “It’s sickening, we always need to do more, I suffered bullying when I first arrived on these shores.”
He added: “There’s no place for racism anywhere in our society, let alone in education.”
