Driver blocks Mcdonald’s for 90 minutes after delay row

‘I said I’m not moving, I’m well within my rights asking for a refund to be put back on to my card’

POLICE were called after a Mcdonald’s customer blockaded a drive-through for an hour-and-a-half in a row over delayed food.

Stuart Yates, 55, drove to the takeaway in Leyland, Lancs, around 9.30am yesterday, where he ordered two breakfast meals. He was asked to wait in the car park while staff prepared his double sausage and egg Mcmuffins, but refused to budge. Mr Yates told the Lancashire Post: “A week ago I got made to wait in the car park for over 15 minutes.

“A lad spotted me and said ‘oh, it’s him again’, because last time I complained. They said ‘go and wait in the car park’. I said ‘I’m not going anywhere until I get my food’.”

The drive-through was forced to close while he protested. Mr Yates claims he was offered a cash refund but requested the money on his credit card so an employee threw the cash on to his car roof and warned him to leave or she would call the police.

He allegedly told staff he would “wait all week” if necessary and continued to block traffic. Mr Yates was forced to leave when police officers arrived.

He said: “I said I’m not moving, I’m well within my rights asking for a refund to be put back on to my card.

“They eventually gave me a refund and tried passing me a long letter they had typed out, but I refused to accept it.

“I hadn’t sworn, I hadn’t done anything threatening, I hadn’t broken any laws.”

Mr Yates left without the Mcmuffins. A Mcdonald’s spokesman said: “We would like to thank our team for handling the situation calmly and professionally.”

Lancashire Constabulary has been approached for comment.
