Forged notes to escape the itch of CCF parades

-

SIR – I hated the Combined Cadet Corps at school (Letters, May 21). Apart from viewing the whole exercise as pointless, the uniform was thick and itchy. Some relief could be had by wearing pyjamas underneath, but, in summer, this led to overheating.

I would get my girlfriend to write letters from “my mother” to excuse me. These were so frequent, however, that when I really was ill and my mother wrote a genuine sick note, I had to get my girlfriend to copy it in her own hand for fear of our deception being discovered. David Leech
