Mother dies ‘within a minute’ after running herself over

A HAIRDRESSER was killed after she failed to put her automatic SUV in park and accidentally reversed over herself.

After arriving at a client’s house on Sept 27, Blanche Mullinger, 57, stepped out of her vehicle, leaving the car running and in reverse gear, and went to the boot to get equipment.

The mother-of-one then reached inside the driver’s seat footwell and accidentally pushed the accelerator.

With one foot lodged inside, she was dragged under the front wheels of the 1.5-tons Mazda CX-5 and died “within a minute” from a heart attack. Marzena Ozimek, her client, told Hampshire Coroner’s Court in Winchester that she heard Ms Mullinger scream shortly after she arrived outside her house.

She said: “I started running towards her. I noticed Blanche’s head was wedged under the front wheel of the right hand side of the car and her foot was still inside the car.”

She told the hearing that Ms Mullinger made a “guttural sound” for a few moments before falling silent, followed by a streak of blood coming from the back of her head. “At that point her face looked grey, her lips were bluish,” she added. “When you looked at her, you knew she might be dead.”
