Dying at home

-

sir – The trend of more deaths taking place at home (report, May 23) is not going away, and these figures point to a hidden crisis across Britain.

Carers have told us that people are dying at home without access to pain relief or the dignity they deserve. Lessons must be learnt from the pandemic, which has shown that the current model for supporting people at the end of their lives is not sustainable.

We welcome the Government’s new legal duty to ensure that palliative care services are provided in every part of England, but this alone is not enough. The Government must make sure this commitment is properly funded and prioritise fixing the social crisis in a way that is fair to everyone.
