Exploding vehicles

sir – Your report (May 23) of a bus exploding into flames while being recharged reminded me of the news stories I saw on French television on three consecutive nights recently.

The first two showed buses exploding into fireballs in the street. They were in service and not being recharged. In turn, those news items prompted reports the following evening of cars bursting into flames.

Given that Britain is moving towards becoming an all-electric country, with internal combustion engines banned, surely further investigations are needed into the safety of this new form of vehicle propulsion.
