An untrustworthy PM and supine MPS are embarrassing Tory members
sir – It is a sad fact that few people trust the integrity of the Prime Minister. Tory MPS seem to think that saying, “It’s just Boris,” is acceptable to the electorate.
Like many others, I am fed up with hearing the Opposition droning on about partygate, but I am equally fed up with supporting a party that is embarrassing its membership.

sir – I was repelled for three reasons by the photograph of the PM in a crowded room, glass in hand, during the November 2020 lockdown.
First, acts like that assisted the spread of Covid. Being a part of a large gathering, indoors, unmasked, before vaccines were available – with the help of bottles of wine and gin – was exactly what Covid needed to allow it to spread further and faster.
Secondly, while the British people had to make sacrifices – rightly so, under the circumstances – the PM thought himself above the law.
Thirdly, the photograph proves that Boris Johnson misled Parliament.
We’ve established, therefore, that he’s a hypocrite who refuses to follow his own laws, and that he can’t be trusted by his own people.
His position ought to be untenable. He ought to be forced out, or resign immediately. But he won’t. Sebastian Monblat

sir – It’s hard to imagine how anyone can be consumed by such hatred as Dominic Cummings, whom you report (May 24) may have been the source of the lockdown photograph.
Will he only be free when Boris Johnson is finally removed from office? Judith Barnes

sir – Anyone who raised a plastic cup at the office to bid farewell to a valued colleague during lockdown should of course be sacked immediately. Camilla Coats-carr
Teddington, Middlesex sir – At least there was a part-used bottle of hand sanitiser on the table. William T Nuttall

sir – The Metropolitan Police has seemingly decided that the PM does not qualify for a fine despite the photographic evidence of him attending what cannot be construed as anything other than a party.
Even if he attended for just a few minutes, he is not only witnessing an illegal assembly but also appears to be encouraging it. The Met’s interpretation of this evidence is, surely, quite as worrying as the event itself, and must now raise questions about its investigation into the affair. Carole Taylor

sir – It looks like we might now get a police inquiry into a police inquiry. Let’s hope it doesn’t cost as much as the original.
