Apache (1954) 5Action, 2.15pm ★★★

Burt Lancaster stars (unconvincingly) in this middling Western as Massai, the last Apache warrior still fighting after the surrender of Geronimo. He escapes from his US government captors while being transported to a reservation, and attempts to return home to be reunited with his lover Nalinle (Jean Peters) and settle down. The government agents tasked with recapturing him have other ideas.

No Country for Old Men (2007) Sky Cinema Greats, 8pm ★★★★★

Based on the novel by Cormac Mccarthy, and written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, this film is set in Eighties Texas, a time when the mythology of the Old West is giving way to a more brutal social order. Josh Brolin plays a Vietnam War vet, who finds himself dragged into a botched drug deal and hunted down by a psychotic assassin (Javier Bardem). It’s a bleak but magnificent affair.

Crazy Rich Asians (2018) BBC Three, 9pm ★★★★

Jon M Chu’s film was Hollywood’s first all-asian studio production in 25 years, and was rightly hailed as a watershed moment for the representation of Asian-americans. It’s a wonderful romcom in which Constance Wu plays Rachel, a New Yorker who suddenly has her hands full when she discovers that her boyfriend’s parents are among the richest people in Singapore. Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh also star.
