Oscar Peterson: Black + White

Oscar Peterson, a genuine jazz great, is here given an appropriate and overdue hagiographical treatment. The documentary slightly undersells the complicated nature of the Canadian pianist, who was married four times and had seven children. Also, despite the subtitle, it never adequately explores how his ethnicity impacted his life and music. Despite these shortcomings, the depth of research, clear passion and integrity that visibly underpins the enterprise cannot be denied.
