Hacked radio station plays anti-war songs

- By Nataliya Vasilyeva

A RUSSIAN radio station played the Ukrainian national anthem and several anti-war songs yesterday after hackers seized control of its website.

The online broadcast of Kommersant FM was interrupted by Russian antiwar ballads including one titled “We don’t need a war”, which was played on loop before normal programming was restored. The station confirmed in a statement that its webcast was hacked but said its radio broadcast was uninterrupted.

Hackers from the Anonymous hacking group yesterday retweeted a message about Kommersant FM with an emoji of a shoulder shrug.

Kommersant FM said yesterday it was investigating the incident but insisted that its employees were not involved.

International hackers have waged war on Russian targets since the inva- sion began on Feb 24. Countless Russian government websites including the Kremlin’s official page have been taken offline, or had trouble loading, over the course of the war.

Last month, several news items protesting against the war in Ukraine appeared on the government-controlled Lenta.ru website, in what was later reported to be an inside hacking job.
