Tax office has Juan Carlos in its sights
SPAIN’S tax office is investigating the former king’s expenses on hunting trips, after prosecutors shelved three other financial probes.
Yesterday, El Mundo reported that the tax office has asked Juan Carlos “to account for the origin of funds” used to pay for the flights and other expenses on trips between 2014 and 2018.
The trips took place after his 2014 abdication, when he no longer held immunity. They are suspected to have been paid for as gifts, which taxpayers must declare in a certain time frame.
Contacted by AFP, the tax office declined to comment.
