North Korean defectors send balloons of aid

- By Julian Ryall in Tokyo

NORTH Korean defectors in South Korea have sent 20 balloons carrying medical supplies over the border to help those with Covid.

On Sunday, Members of Fighters for a Free North Korea delivered 20,000 masks, 15,000 pain relief tablets and 30,000 vitamin C pills via balloons.

This defied a South Korean law introduced in 2000, after Pyongyang threatened to use artillery on sites which sent balloons of propaganda leaflets, food and money.

Yesterday, North Korean state media reported 54,000 new cases of “fever” in the previous 24 hours.
