Five notable shipwrecks
1. The Mary Rose – Henry VIII’S favourite ship sank in battle in 1545 in the Solent. Located in 1971, it was raised in 1982 and is on display in Portsmouth.
2. The White Ship – 300 people, including the only legitimate heir to King Henry 1, drowned when the vesselsank in the Channel in 1120. It was found in 2021 after a search led by Earl Spencer, brother of Diana, Princess of Wales.
3. Endurance – Sir Ernest Shackleton’s icebreaker was found this year, more than 100 years after it sank during as he tried to cross Antarctica via the South Pole.
4. HMS Association – A Navy gun ship lost in 1707, off the Isles of Scilly, was found in 1967.
5. RMS Titanic – World’s largest passenger ship sank in the North Atlantic on its maiden voyage in 1912 and was found in 1985.
