Play starts on Sunday and continues until Wednesday, June 15, in the European National Women’s Pairs and the European National Seniors’ Pairs in Funchal, Madeira, writes Julian Pottage, Bridge Correspondent.

In the Women’s Pairs, three English pairs have entered: Allison Green and Bridget Rampton, Imogen La Chappelle and Claire Robinson, and Nathalie Shashou and Sally Brock; two Welsh pairs: Laura Woodruff and Gilly Clench, and Ceri Pierce and Sophie Cunningham;and three Irish pairs: Mary Kelly-rogers and Anne Fitzpatrick, Ann O’connell and Dolores Gilliland, and Lucy Phelan and Louise Mitchell.

In the Seniors’ pairs, two English pairs have entered: Brian Senior and Sandra Penfold, and Taf Anthias and Christopher Dixon; one Scottish pair: Mike Ash and Robert Ferrari; and one Irish pair: Donal Garvey and Pat Quinn.
