A TEENAGE girl was killed shortly after meeting her attacker in a Welsh nightclub, a court has heard.

Lily Sullivan, 18, was found dead in a pond at 4am after spending the night partying with friends in Paddles in Pembroke.

Yesterday, Lewis Haines, 31, pleaded guilty to her murder.

Swansea Crown Court heard Miss Sullivan’s body was discovered on Dec 17 last year in Mill Pond, Pembroke, close to the town’s castle.

Mr Haines and Ms Sullivan had allegedly met in Paddles before they left the club separately and met in a lane near the club.

An inquest previously heard Ms Sullivan had been strangled before she was left in the pond. Coroner’s officer Lisa Jenkins said police were called to the ponds at 4.12am “following reports of a female body in the water”.

She added: “Despite resuscitation attempts she was pronounced dead at 6.02am.”

Mr Haines, of Lamphey, Pembs, did not know Ms Sullivan before they met on the night of her murder.

A previous hearing was told there was CCTV of Mr Haines and Ms Sullivan in the club together and in the streets and lanes outside afterwards.

After leaving Ms Sullivan’s body in the water Mr Haines ran off but later confessed the killing to several people and was arrested within hours.

Oil refinery worker Mr Haines, who previously admitted manslaughter, appeared in court on videolink from prison, when he admitted to killing Ms Sullivan.

John Hipkin QC, defending Mr Haines, said there were “various complications” in the case.

Judge Paul Thomas QC adjourned sentencing until July 7.
