Iran’s ambassador encouraged protest over Fatima film
MUSLIMS in the UK who protested against a film about the Prophet Mohammed’s daughter, Fatima, were encouraged by Iran, it has emerged.
The showing of The Lady of Heaven prompted demonstrations and Cineworld cancelled its screenings after the film was said to be blasphemous.
Iran’s ambassador to the UK encouraged people to take action to “ban” the film which was placed under fatwa by Shia clerics, it has emerged. Hamid Baeidinejad wrote on Twitter when in post as ambassador last year: “In a letter to the Shia and Sunni Islamic centres in the UK, I categorically condemned the film The Lady of Heaven produced in the UK as a divisive action, and expressed our concern over the attempts to create division and hatred among Muslims at this sensitive time. Iranian media said the Iran-backed Islamic Human Rights Commission said that the historical epic was an attempt to “sow discord”.
