UK’S oldest Ss-branded Jaguar comes up for sale

-

The UK’S oldest surviving Jaguar car, dating back to before the company changed its name from SS to avoid any Nazi associations, is up for sale.

The SS 2.5litre saloon hit the roads in 1936 after being unveiled at the Mayfair Hotel, London, a year earlier.

The brand changed from SS – Swallow Sidecars – to Jaguar in 1945.

Described by specialist auctioneers H&H Classics as “essentially complete”, it has been extensively refurbished, but will still require painting, trimming and rewiring. It is estimated to fetch between £35,000 to £45,000.

SS 2.5litre saloons are rare as they were often broken up for parts by enthusiasts of the sportier SS100.
