Green council blames Brexit for weeds

- By Daily Telegraph Reporter

A GREEN-RUN council has blamed Brexit for weeds on the city’s streets.

Brighton and Hove city council claims an infestation on pavements and grass verges is a result of staff shortages caused by leaving the European Union.

Now the council is planning to provide tools and advice to residents and ask them to weed their own roads and pavements.

The eco-conscious council says that most seasonal staff used to come from European countries for the summer and their ability to work in the UK has been hit.

A council spokesman said: “[The] ability of European nationals to work in the UK after Brexit, alongside the pandemic, is continuing to have an impact on our recruitment.”
