BHP cancels exit from thermal coal

BHP has U-turned on its plan to sell all its thermal coal assets. It comes as surging prices made them more valuable and a shift in investor attitudes has reduced pressure on the Australian company to stop mining the dirtiest fuel. Rival Rio Tinto exited coal years ago, while Glencore said it will hold on to its mines until they run out of coal sometime before 2050.
