Vintage Jaguar restored with ocean plastic set to make a splash at £350k

- By Daily Telegraph Reporter

A UNIQUELY restored classic car incorporating recycled ocean plastics is going on sale for £350,000.

The Jaguar XK120 has been brought back to life in what the restoration company behind the project, Lunaz, says is a world first.

The model, first released in 1952, now has a leather-free cabin, with carpets created from reclaimed fishing nets and interior backing materials made from marine plastic pollution. It has also been converted to run on electric.

The two-seater was unveiled at Concours on Savile Row.

Rather than leather, the seats are finished in a fabric material, with a sporty addition of a black stripe to the driver’s seat.

Its interior has Burr Walnut veneer to give a satin lacquer-clad contemporary aesthetic. Lunaz says that, wherever possible, material from the 70-year-old vehicle was painstakingly restored to minimise the need for new materials.

The starting price for the car has been put at £350,000. The order book is open and David Lorenz, Lunaz’s founder, says demand is high.

“Furthering the legacies of the most celebrated cars in the world is a labour

of love,” said Mr Lorenz, whose company has attracted investment from the likes of David Beckham.

The former footballer recently gave his son Brooklyn a 1954 Jaguar XK140 that was restored and electrified by Lunaz as a wedding gift.

Lunaz is working on a number of other high-end cars, including an Aston Martin DB6, Bentley Continentals and a Rolls-royce Phantom V.
