The Government should prevent the deliberate harm done by the rail strikes
SIR – My brother’s funeral is to take place in Bristol on June 21, the first day of the rail strikes. I have to get there from Essex. I am 80 years old and simply couldn’t drive there.
It looks as though the RMT has cancelled an event that means a lot to me and to many others.
These train drivers earn more than I ever did and yet they can dictate what the rest of us have to put up with. Boris Johnson needs to get firm with them. Diane C Guest

SIR – The planned strikes are a last roll of the dice for militant railway workers. Because of the huge growth in working from home, they can no longer hold to ransom the millions of affluent and influential office workers they once could.
These strikes will hurt most those in jobs similar to their own, who have to attend their workplace. Many of them will be least able to afford to lose three or more days’ pay.

SIR – Why not close the rail network completely next week and get ahead with the summer programme of repairs?
