Yet another university has been captured by wokery

-

The Open University used to seem like a happily benign organisation. A way for retirees and others to get the education they had often missed out on earlier in their lives, and to acquire qualifications just after they might have been useful.

But in this era a rule can be adumbrated. Which is that even the most benign organisations can be turned rancid by the politics and culture of the era.

So it is that we learnt this week that the Open University is teaching the usual woke nonsense. According to a report in The Telegraph this week, academics at an Open University training course were told that the English language upholds “white superiority”.

Academics were reportedly put through “anti-racist” training, which told them that “white hegemony” had been “covertly weaved” into people’s minds in the West and that white Europeans have “successfully” imposed racist ideas on the rest of the world.

A module titled “What is whiteness?” claims that “white superiority is embedded in the linguistic and cultural psychology of the English language” and that this has had negative impacts on “black people and people of colour”.

In a spirit of openness, I should like to ask a few questions of my own of the people teaching this racist guff.

Firstly, it seems that English and white guilt have been highly remunerative for the people teaching this sort of divisive nonsense.

Would a genuinely racist culture actually keep paying people top dollar to tell everybody in that culture that they are racist? I wonder.

Oh, and also, in an equal spirit of openness, perhaps the “academics” studying this could do China, Chinese culture and the Chinese language next.

And then get back to us.
