Fatboy Slim leads the way for Glastonbury veteran’s airlift

- By Jack Leather

FATBOY SLIM has called for others to follow his lead and donate money to help a Glastonbury regular, who has terminal cancer, make it to the festival one last time.

Nigel Stonehouse had been due to attend this year but can no longer travel without medical help, so his friends have launched a fundraiser for a helicopter to fly him there from hospital.

Fatboy Slim said on Twitter: “Folks. I’ve been contacted by the friend of a terminally ill man who wants to go to Glasto one last time. He’s so poorly with cancer they’re going to have to fly him in by air ambulance.

“If you’d join me in helping Nige’s dying wish then pls donate here.”

Nigel Stonehouse has kidney cancer and his friends are trying to raise £12,000. The 58-year-old bricklayer from Hartlepool has been going to Glastonbury for 30 years.

He was looking forward to another visit but was recently told that the cancer had spread to his lungs. Glastonbury say their site medics will be waiting to help him if he is able to travel to the site.

Almost £9,000 had been raised by last night.

His close friend, Lizzie Beggs, wrote: “Nige was planning to be with us all at Glastonbury this week, and he has made it his dying wish to make it there, even if only for a few hours for one last time.

“He is currently an inpatient at North Tees hospital, and their wonderful palliative care team have assured him that they will do all they can to make this happen.

“Within hours they had contacted site managers at the festival who advised that they would facilitate in ways that they can.

“Unfortunately there is no space left in the accessible areas (Nige has a general sale ticket) but they will facilitate entry via the accessible car park.”

On his Gofundme campaign page, he

‘North Tees hospital’s palliative care team have assured they will do all they can to make this happen’

is described as “a wonderful, kind man who is special to all who know him”.

Mr Stonehouse, described as a “festival veteran”, has gone to Glastonbury with his friends for three decades, and has seen the Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash and David Bowie perform there.

The festival is from Wednesday to Sunday in Pilton, Somerset.

The Pyramid stage’s headliners include Billie Eilish, Paul Mccartney, Kendrick Lamar, Diana Ross and Lorde, while Megan Thee Stallion, Charli XCX, Primal Scream, Bicep and the Sugababes are among the main acts on other stages.
